Zhangjiakou and Beijing are among the top 20 cities in China with the best air quality in January, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment said Wednesday.According to a report by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment on air quality in China, 20 of 168 key cities, including Lhasa, Haikou, Kunming, Guiyang, Zhoushan, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Zhangjiakou, Huizhou, Shenzhen and Beijing, had relatively good air quality in January.Jiaozuo, Heze, Urumqi, Luohe, Pingdingshan, Kaifeng, Harbin, Nanyang, Xianyang, Hebi and other 20 cities had relatively poor air quality.In January, the average proportion of “2+26” cities in The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and its surrounding areas being good was 42.3%, down 7.1 percentage points year on year.The concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) was 87 micrograms per cubic meter, up 20.8 percent year on year.Ozone concentration was 73 micrograms per cubic meter, down 1.4 percent year on year.In January, 83.9 percent of Beijing’s days were good, and PM2.5 concentration was 45 micrograms per cubic meter, up 18.4 percent year on year.In January, 73.4 percent of the 339 cities at the prefecture level and above had good air quality on average, and the average PM2.5 concentration was 56 micrograms per cubic meter, up 3.7 percent year on year.The average concentration of particulate matter (PM10) was 76 micrograms per cubic meter, down 14.6 percent year on year.Liu Youbin, spokesman for the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, told reporters that 87.5 percent of cities at prefecture-level and above will have good days in 2021, up 0.5 percentage points year on year.PM2.5 concentration was 30 micrograms per cubic meter, down 9.1 percent year on year.China’s carbon dioxide emission per unit of GDP has reached the schedule set in the 14th Five-Year Plan period.Air quality in The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, one of the key areas in the battle against blue skies, has continued to improve.For the first time, Beijing will meet the air quality standards in 2021.
